‘Game of Thrones’: a success for HBO

Raking in 19.3 million viewers for its last episode, ‘Game of Thrones’ just got confirmed as being the most watched television programme on HBO. The previous record was held by ‘The Sopranos’, the season four premiere of which was watched by 13.4 million people in 2002. However, the Korean War comedy ‘MASH’ still remains the most seen show in history with 106 million who tuned in in 1983.

What was the season finale about?

A lot quieter than last week’s episode of ‘Game of Thrones’, ‘The Iron Throne’ was a follow-up of the events taking place in ‘The Bells’. In the latter, Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) burnt down King’s Landing in an epic plot twist. Despite being a fan favourite, she ends up being killed by Jon Snow (Kit Harington) who is sent to the Night’s Watch to pay for his crime.

A recap of the popular TV show

Launched in 2011 on HBO, ‘Game of Thrones’ by David Benioff and D B Weiss is in fact an adaptation of a set of fantasy novels, ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ by George R. R. Martin. An acclaimed series (47 Primetime Emmy Awards), its storyline revolves around characters who fight to sit on the Iron Throne. The main cast members include Peter Dinklage, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams and Isaac Hempstead-Wright.

Furthermore, despite the death of several personas on HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones’, Bran Stark was the source 10.9% of the 578,059 emotional reactions on Twitter. Coming close is Tyrion Lannister, pulling in 10.1% of the Tweets.
