Tom Cruise will be the lead in the film “The Mummy”
It has been eight years since a canon “The Mummy” film has seen the light of day. The lead role of the canon has been taken over by Tom Cruise. The actor can be seen in a brand new trailer for this film. Before Tom Cruise, Brendan Fraser was the franchise’s main man. He starred in the former trilogy, which spawned spin-off movies, comic books, and an animated series.
Alex Kurtzman directs Sofia Boutella alongside the “Mission: Impossible” actor
Having recently been seen in the “Jack Reacher” sequel, Tom Cruise is maintaining his reputation as one of Hollywood’s most prolific action-heroes by joining “The Mummy”. In this film, Tom Cruise will star alongside Algerian-French actress, Sofia Boutella, who has been seen in “Kingsman: The Secret Service” and “Star Trek Beyond”. Alex Kurtzman, the director in charge of bringing this project to life is known for his production work on films such as “Now You See Me”, “Ender’s Game” and “Star Trek: Into Darkness”.

A more serious tone for this new reboot
As suggested by the trailer of “The Mummy”, this reboot film will have a gloomier tone. The previous trilogy having comedic actor Brendan Fraser as its protagonist, its horror and thriller aspects were interlaced with occasional slapstick jokes. If the promotional video is any indication of the overall ambiance of the franchise’s continuance, this will not be the case in any upcoming “The Mummy” sequels with Tom Cruise.
The other actors that will star in this motion-picture
Annabelle Wallis and Russell Crowe will also star alongside Tom Cruise in “The Mummy”. Russell Crowe will star in this film as Robert Louis Stevenson’s Dr. Henry Jekyll. Other actors on the roster are Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance, and Javier Botet. “The Mummy” will be released on June 9, 2017.
