Antoine Fuqua is one of the most respected directors in Hollywood. Known for his work on “Training Day”, he was selected for the remake of “Scarface”, a movie that has had two equally influential versions up to now.

Antoine Fuqua will direct a new “Scarface” motion-picture

Seeing as Antoine Fuqua has much experience in the action movie genre, he should be able to handle the direction of this new version of “Scarface”. Indeed, he has helmed features such as “The Equalizer”, as well as “Olympus Has Fallen”.

The 1983 Al Pacino film

The 1983 “Scarface” was made by Brian De Palma and featured actor Al Pacino as the main character. It was set in Miami and gravitated around Tony Montana, a Cuban immigrant that rose to power through thuggish ways. Antoine Fuqua’s take on this action film franchise will retain the main theme according to Deadline, although the story will be set in modern day Los Angeles. No actors have been attached to this upcoming “Scarface” remake yet.

The scribes of the upcoming version

The screenplay had been originally rewritten by David Ayer, of “Suicide Squad” fame. The latter scribe had worked with Antoine Fuqua on the gangster motion-picture, “Training Day”. Jonathan Herman, who has written for “Straight Outta Compton”, has finalised the script. This particular iteration of the “Scarface” franchise will be the third. The very first was released in 1932 and directed by Howard Hawks. It told the story of an Irishman who became a notorious gangster in 1920s Chicago.

What’s next for Antoine Fuqua?

The producers on-board the next “Scarface” will be Marc Shmuger, Scott Stuber and Dylan Clark. As for Antoine Fuqua, his next feature will be “The Magnificent Seven”. It will be a Westernised take on “The Seven Samurai”, and will feature Denzel Washington, Haley Bennett, Vincent D’Onofrio, Ethan Hawke, Chris Pratt, and Peter Sarsgaard.
